Adding a link within your page
This is as easy as highlighting the text you want to turn into a link and then clicking the Link button on the toolbar. In the box which pops up you can start typing part of a page title to get automatic suggestions for internal page links, or you can copy and paste an external URL.
Sometimes you need to add a link to a separate file stored in your media library such as a Gift Aid form. This is likely to be a PDF file rather than an image. To do this you will first need to find the URL of that file, which you can do from inside the media library.
If you click on a media item you will see a page showing information about that item. The page looks different depending on whether you are in List view or Grid view.
Either way, you’ll see a button labelled Copy URL to clipboard. Click that button.
Now having copied the URL you can go back to the page you are editing and create a link as described above, pasting the URL you just copied into the link box (Ctrl-V or Command-V).
The menu bar
The menu bar is near the top of each web page, below the church name header. It provides a set of quick-access links to the main pages of your site. It is best not to have too many items up here as it can become crowded and confusing. 6-7 items is about the limit of what works. However you can create sub-menus which drop down when you hover the mouse on the main menu item.
It is also best to keep the menu titles short. The default will be the page title, but this can be quite long, especially the home page which may have a title like Welcome to St Stephen’s Ambridge. You can edit this Navigation Label to make it shorter, so Welcome to … might become simply Home, Photo Gallery might become Gallery. and so on.
Adding or editing a menu item
You can access the menu editor from the Appearance item on the left sidebar. Easy WP Guide has a comprehensive page on editing menus.
Custom links
If you are using the single page structure you may see some Custom Links. These are used to allow jumping to an anchor within the page rather than to the top of the page, e.g. https://churchsite.co.uk/ambridge/#venue.
To create an anchor within your page you need to select the Heading you want to use as the reference point. Look at the Block settings on the right side of the editor and open up the Advanced pane.

In the HTML anchor box, add the tag you want to use, such as venue or contact and update the page. The tag you just added is what you need to add to the end of your custom link, prefixed with #, e.g. https://churchsite.co.uk/ambridge/#venue
Where have my menus gone?
Just below the list of menu items are the Menu Settings.

Make sure that After Header Menu is ticked, otherwise your menu will not be displayed at the top of the web page.
