WordPress keeps your pictures and files in a separate area called the Media Library. This is a little different from some website design systems, but it does allow you to see what files you already have, and you can use the same image on different pages without having to upload a new copy.
Easy WP Guide gives a good overview of the media library listing page, along with further pages which show how to add new media items to your library.
Things to be aware of with the Church Site websites is that we store media files externally, and we use an image compressor to save space and speed up page load times. After uploading an item it is best to wait for it to be optimised. If you are in the list view with each item listed separately, one per row, you will initially see a spinning indicator on the right. When optimisation is complete you will see how much compression has been applied.
If you are using one of our network sites such as probusclub.net or churchsite.co.uk then all media items will have a URL starting with the network domain name, e.g. https://uploads.churchsite.co.uk/ regardless of whether you are using a custom domain name.
Replacing an existing item
If you store data files such as PDF files, you may at some point wish to update the file, for example if your constitution or membership form is revised.
What you need to do is upload the new file and get its URL as if you were inserting it for the first time (see the Menus and Links page). You can then go back to the page where the item is referred to, click on the existing link and update it to use the new URL.
Note that if you delete the original file and upload a new one with the same name, WordPress will link to the new file, but web browsers may not see the change. This is because they keep a local copy of files downloaded to save requesting the same one again, and if the file name is unchanged, the browser will show the local (outdated) copy. If you upload the new file first then WordPress will be forced to give it a new name and the confusion doesn’t arise.
