If you have the Events plugin enabled then you will be able to add individual events, which appear listed on your events page.
From the Events menu entry in the dashboard, select New Event.
In most respects, an event looks a lot like any other page or post. You need to give the event a title, and normally you would add further paragraphs to describe it and give details.
Underneath that you’ll see a section labelled Event Meta which is just the information needed to display events in the right order, and a bit about the location, etc.
The Link to more info is entirely optional and normally you won’t need it. If you have a separate page describing the event then you can add a link to it here.
Link label is also optional and only used if you have provided a link. By default there will be underlined text More Info which you can click on. If you want to change More Info to something different, this is the place to do it.
Generally you can ignore the custom summary. If your event description is very long and you only want it to be visible when someone goes to look at a specific event, you can use a shorter version of the text in the list of all events. This text is used for the shortened version.
Once you have entered and saved an event it will appear in your events listing page until the end of the day when the event is scheduled. It will disappear from that list automatically at midnight. If you have a past events listing page, then it will re-appear there.
Displaying Events
Event listings are displayed using a shortcode. Normally these will already have been added to your page when the site was created, but this is a list of the codes used and what they do.
- Use [vsel] to display upcoming events (including today)
- Use [vsel-past-events] to display past events
- Use [vsel-all-events] to display all events
Note that until you have some events entered, all of these will just display No events found or similar. Likewise, the past-events listing will only show something when at least one of the events you’ve added has a date earlier than today.
